'Grimm' season 5 episode 9 preview: serial killer uses a brutal Wesen ritual; show at risk of being cancelled
Fans were introduced to a new Wesen and Nick learned more about Hadrian's Wall from Meisner in the previous episode of "Grimm." But can Nick turn his back on police work and fight with them, especially now that a Wesen serial killer appears to be on the loose in Portland?
Episode 8 of the show's fifth season was a return to the case-of-the-week format that was heavily used during the first season. This time around, the Wesen was a Loch Ness-type creature called the Wasser Zahne. Unfortunately, this one used his uniqueness to drum up business for two Luisant-Pecheur brothers by killing tourists.
While Nick (David Giuntoli) and Hank (Russell Hornsby) were able to close the case with Trubel's (Jacqueline Toboni) help, their next assignment appears to be more diabolical and dangerous. A synopsis for episode 9, "Star Crossed," reveals that a serial killer using a "barbaric Wesen ritual" has caught the attention of Nick, Hank and Wu (Reggie Lee). However, the killer is always several steps ahead of the detectives, prompting Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) to go undercover to help them. Eve (Bitsie Tulloch) will once again be called on to use her unique skill set to interrogate a suspect for Hadrian's Wall.
The trailer for the upcoming episode teases what the Grimm is up to and showcases Eve's interrogation methods. The teaser starts with Nick and Hank looking at the disturbing image of a man, tied to a cross, with glass shards embedded in his eyes. As another victim is shown, a voiceover states that Nick would need the help of an old love to stop this serial killer. Scenes of Nick and Juliette during happier times are shown before the clip transitions to a scene of Eve, wearing a red wig, interrogating a man. Trubel is seen standing in the background.
The man has red eyes and appears to be a Wesen. As Eve tells the man "see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil," Trubel is shown with her knife out, apparently running after someone. Nick is also shown and he's in full detective mode, with his gun out. The clip ends with Trubel looking at the man while Eve woges.
It would be interesting to see if Nick would utilize Eve's powers to help him track down the serial killer. However, it seems that a lot of the show's fans are not happy with the way things have progressed in the show. A recent report by TV by the Numbers revealed that the show's sub -1.0 rating for five of its seven episodes is a cause for concern and puts the show in danger of cancellation.
"Grimm" season 5 returns with a new episode on Feb. 12.
