'Gotham' season 2 villains will be Mr. Freeze, The Ridder, Mad Hatter and Clayface; focus on the Joker
"Gotham" is as much the story of Batman as it is about his arch nemesis, the Joker. Batman isn't Batman without the Joker and fans who have been wishing for more of the latter are in for a treat.
Season two will largely focus on the Joker's origin story, revealed creator Bruno Heller in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Fans saw Jerome, a teenaged boy who couldn't stop laughing, confess to Jim Gordon that he killed his own mother. While that was a rare glimpse into the iconic villain's childhood, fans will also surely see the spine-tingling villain in the show's sophomore season. "We're going to find out how the hell Jerome, the proto-Joker we met earlier in this season, connects with the Joker as people known him. That's the big focus of the beginning of the second season. We're going to tell the story of how the Joker came to be", Heller shares.
While this is good news for fans, it shouldn't come as a surprise. What should really please comic-book and Batman fans are that Mr. Freeze will also play a significant role in season two. CinemaBlend reports that the backstory of Dr. Victor Fries aka Mr. Freeze will also be depicted. Comic book fans know that Fries' tragic story involves his attempts to save his ill wife Nora. The cryogenics scientist's attempts backfire when an accident takes place and he must wear a cryogenics suit in order to stay alive.
Nygma's transformation into the The Ridder was seen last season and hence, his character will also grace the small screen in season two. Other villains to be included in the upcoming season's mix include Clayface and Mad Hatter.
Deadline reports that Bruce Wayne will discover that his father led a double life, albeit a heroic life. He was a complex character who kept many dark secrets. This resulted in the creation of an alter ego and the Bat Cave, which was seen in season one's ending.
"Gotham" premieres this fall on FOX.
