'Gotham' season 2 spoilers: Bruce goes after Professor Strange in episode 19
Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) will pursue the man responsible for his parents' death in the upcoming episode of "Gotham."
In "Azrael," the synopsis reveals that the young Batman wants some answers from his father's former friend and associate Professor Hugo Strange (BD Wong). Bruce now knows that it was Strange who betrayed his family and that Project Chimera is still ongoing. After all these years searching for his parents' killer, Bruce has finally unlocked the mystery that has haunted him his whole life. Strange is the only one who can tell him exactly what happened the night his father and mother died. The doctor, however, will want nothing of Bruce's impassioned rant and will send a newly resurrected villain to stop him and Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) from coming any closer.
Strange will send in Theo Galavan (James Frain) whom Gordon killed on the docks with Penguin's (Robin Lord Taylor) help during the midseason finale. This new Galavan, however, will bear no resemblance to the old psychopath who once plagued Gotham City. In the promo, he now calls himself Azrael, the redeemed one. Comicbook aficionados will recall that the assassin that was genetically created by the Order of St. Dumas is called Azrael. The character is known for his red and back ensemble and flaming sword. The teaser shows Galavan sporting the same outfit, but it remains to be seen if the wicked-looking sword he is seen wielding will catch fire later on in the series.
Executive producer John Stephens talked to Comicbook.com about the new Galavan/Azrael. According to him, the Azrael in the series would be a little different from the original version. Although they tried to stay true to how he was depicted in the comics, the EP said they have included a twist that viewers could look forward to.
"In many respects, Azrael will have many of the hallmarks and traits that we know from the comics. But it will have a brand-new twist upon that character; the way we're going to bring that character into being on our show will be different than anything we've seen in the comics," the EP said.
"Gotham" season 2 episode 19 airs on Monday, May 2, at 8 p.m. EDT on FOX.
