'God of War 4' update: Hermes boots not part of the upcoming game sequel
Hermes' boots will not be part of the usable items in "God of War 4," as revealed by Santa Monica Studio creative director Cory Barlog.
In "God of War 3," the main protagonist, Kratos, decided to keep Hermes' boots after defeating him. Players of the game have since been wondering if the boots that is known to enhance speed will be one of the boosters available for the upcoming "God of War 4" sequel.
After months of speculations, a fan inquiry via Twitter was answered by Barlog. The fan with username @jawadoh_23 asked, "Can I use 'Hermes Boots' in the game?" To which Barlog replied, "no, not this one. That was just a fun easter egg I wanted to throw into the e3 demo."
Although disappointed with the revelation, the non-inclusion of Hermes' boots is not surprising since Barlog and the rest of the team in charge of the upcoming games have already made it known that "God of War 4" is deviating from Greek mythology as it enters the world of Norse mythology.
Barlog has spoken to Engadget about the change in mythology and said, "As a writer, I think the interesting thing to do is to take the challenge of somebody who has a very difficult past, a very difficult image and put the audience in the position that they're going to root for them."
Barlog continued, "And they're going to root for them because they're failing — because they're getting back up. You're not inspired because they succeeded, you're inspired because they succeeded after a thousand failures."
In order to introduce the shift, Kratos' son will play a big role in bringing his humanity throughout the game. Parenting would bring out the playable character's Spartan side, but at the same time be the constant reminder that he should be more cautious with his decisions.
There has been no announced release date for "God of War 4" yet, but the game is widely believed to be out by 2017.
