'Girl Meets World' season 3 news: new season currently being written; season 2 returns January with episode about STEM
"Girl Meets World" season 2 is on a short hiatus. But when the series returns, the show will be dealing more with the girls and STEM than the love triangle developing between friends Riley, Maya and Lucas.
The coming-of-age sitcom ended 2015 with a New Year episode that showed Farkle revealing to everyone that Riley (Rowan Blanchard) was still in love with Lucas (Peyton Meyer). The situation was made complicated by Riley's best friend, Maya (Sabrina Carpenter), because she also has feelings for Lucas. The episode, "Girl Meets the New Year," ended with the three friends left behind the rooftop, sitting awkwardly together.
This has naturally led to speculations as to who Lucas will choose and the effect it will have on the girls' friendship. Fans wonder whether Lucas will choose Maya over Riley. While Lucaya shippers will undoubtedly be elated by the news, Rucas fans will be devastated. However, the "Girl Meets World" writers have already indicated in a tweet that this youthful love triangle won't be resolved or dealt with anytime soon.
According to the writers, season 2 is a "season of growth" while season 3 — which has been confirmed — will be a "season of feelings." It would be interesting to see how the best friends will grow this season, especially given the situation with Lucas in this "season of growth." Will they be able to continue being the best of friends or will the knowledge that they both have feelings for the same boy ruin their friendship?
Season 3 being described as a "season of feelings" makes sense as well, as Riley, Maya and their friends will be entering a new phase in their lives — high school. They will definitely be experiencing new situations, a new environment, new friendships and new relationships.
"Girl Meets World" season 2 will be back on Jan. 8, 2016. Season 3 is currently being written and might premiere in spring 2016.
