'Game of Thrones' season 5 spoilers: Cersei to do her 'walk of atonement,' Jon Snow faces mutiny in finale episode
Tensions are running high now that the finale of "Game of Thrones" season five is fast approaching. The spoiler photos that have littered the Internet are also contributing to the rising dread and anticipation that viewers are already feeling.
The finale, which bears the title "Mother's Mercy," seems to point to Cersei Lannister's atonement/humiliation. In the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, Cersei is forced to undergo the walk of atonement as penance for her crimes. The punishment entails Cersei to be shorn, stripped and to walk from the Great Sept of Baelor to the Red Keep.
It is an open secret that Cersei's walk of atonement will be included at some point in the series. The difficulties HBO experienced in filming the scene were well documented. But how this scene will play out and how it will affect the series are among the biggest questions.
Things are not going to end well for Jon Snow either. The Lord Commander is facing resistance from his brothers over his decision to seek an alliance with the Wildlings. In the "A Dance with Dragons" volume, Bowen Marsh and several brothers from the Night Watch stab Snow "for the Watch."
Aside from those two monumental events, there are other plotlines that need to be wrapped up as well. There is Stannis' march to Winterfell, Daenerys disappearance and Arya's blinding for killing Ser Meryn Trant.
It would also be interesting to know what would befall the Sand Snakes, Sansa, Brienne and Theon/Reek.
While fans who have read the book might think they have an inkling of what will happen next, they should take in consideration the fact that the show's writers have already deviated from George R. R. Martin's book. So there is a very big chance that the show will come up with something that will shock and surprise viewers.
The only logical thing left to do here is to relax, wait and just enjoy the anticipation. And stop pestering George R.R. Martin for spoilers.
