'Gambit' movie news and update: Channing Tatum to be the superhero in upcoming 'X-Men' solo movie?
"Gambit" is part of Fox's big movie lineup for 2016, which includes Ryan Reynold's "Deadpool" and the Bryan Singer film "X-Men: Apocalypse."
However, as latest reports suggest, it seems like the production of "Gambit" will need to look for another actor to play the B-list superhero as Channing Tatum might not play the popular and cool mutant, Remy "Gambit" LeBeau.
According to an exclusive report by The Wrap, an anonymous tipster said, "Channing Tatum's 'Gambit' deal is in jeopardy of falling apart and he is planning to exit the comic book project at 20th Century Fox."
Nothing much has been said about why Tatum's deal is in jeopardy or the reason why he might quit. However, another unnamed source of The Wrap claimed that the actor's "reps are still in active discussions with the studio but acknowledged that 'something is up.'"
The news came as a total surprise, most especially because Tatum just recently appeared during the Comic-Con Fox panel to promote the debut movie, "Gambit."
Meanwhile, the production is currently looking for a leading woman for the film and one potential candidate that was mentioned in The Wrap's report was "Blue is the Warmest Color" and "Spectre" star, Lea Seydoux.
Twentieth Century Fox is remaining mum and has yet to release an official statement to address the issue, as well as confirm or deny the rumors.
"Gambit" is slated for an Oct. 7, 2016 release. However, if this issue turns out to be accurate, then fans can expect the premiere date to be a little bit delayed especially if the production does not immediately find a suitable actor to fill in the role.
Tatum is also a producer of the movie and it is yet to be known whether he will stay onboard to produce if he indeed does not play the role of the titular character.
