The iPhone 6 is no doubt a big hit in the market, but there is another metal-bodied device from Samsung, the Galaxy A8, hoping to challenge Apple's dominance. Here is how these two devices compare.

Design

The iPhone 6 has a metal body, a material present on almost all of Apple's devices. It comes with rounded edges which give it a classy look and it has a fingerprint scanner just below the display.

As for the Galaxy A8, its build is remarkably similar to that of its competitor and it also comes with a fingerprint scanner located just at the bottom of the display.

In terms of colors, the iPhone 6 has three options, gold, silver and space gray while the Galaxy A8 is available in white, black and gold.

Display

The Galaxy A8 is a phablet so its display is bigger than the version on its competitor. It comes with a super AMOLED screen measuring 5.7 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 386 pixels per inch. The iPhone 6 has an IPS LCD screen, measuring 4.7 inches with a resolution of 750 x 1334 pixels and a density of 326 pixels per inch.

Specs

There is an Apple A8 chipset on the iPhone 6 along with a Cyclone CPU with two cores clocked at 1.4 GHz and a PowerVR GX6450 GPU. As for the Galaxy A8, it comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset, an octa-core CPU with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.0 GHz along with an Adreno 405 GPU.

Memory

The Galaxy A8 has a big advantage as it comes with 2 GB RAM and a memory slot which can be used to add up to 128 GB of external storage. The iPhone 6, unfortunately, does not come with a memory slot so users would just have to choose the variant with the internal storage best suited for them. As for RAM, it has 1 GB.

Price

The Samsung Galaxy A8 is slowly rolling out worldwide and is currently priced at around $510, unlocked. The iPhone 6, on the other hand, is priced differently depending on the variant but the model which has 16 GB of onboard storage costs $199 with a two-year contract.
