'Galavant' season 2: John Stamos will reprise role for next season expected to air in January

(ABC/Galavant)

"Galavant" started out on a high note when it first came out. The musical comedy series boasts of a Monty Python-esque feel and had the backing of legendary composer, Alan Menken, who was reported to be composing most of the songs from the show.

The star-studded cast and brilliant premise quickly made the show popular. However, it was not able to sustain its momentum and gradually lost steam, losing viewers to the point that most assumed it would be cancelled. But despite the less-than-stellar ratings, "Galavant" was renewed for a second season by ABC.

On top of that good news, it has also been confirmed that "Galavant" fans would be getting more of Ser Jean Hamm.

"Galavant's" Executive Producer, Dan Fogelman, revealed during TCA that John Stamos is set to appear in at least one episode of the show. Given that the 51-year-old actor's schedule is tight right now, with his roles in "Fuller House" and his new comedy "Grandfathered," it is a testament to how much he believes in the musical that he is making time for it.

And based on what "Galavant" has shown in its first season, it is easy to understand why Stamos wants to reprise his role as Ser Hamm. The show's first season boasted of guest stars like Hugh Bonneville, Ricky Gervais and Weird Al Jankovic. It also ended in a cliffhanger of sorts, with the title character in a dangerous position while his old flame Madalena has shown how power-hungry she really is.

There is no news yet on when "Galavant's" second season will be aired but there have been rumblings that it will be shown starting January as a stand-in for "Once Upon a Time."

Galavant's ratings admittedly leave much to be desired and it is a miracle that it was even renewed, but fans are hoping that this new lease on life will result in better ratings for the show as it is genuinely one of those unique TV offerings that would never get boring.
