Over the past few days, there have been rumors that Oscar De La Hoya would come out of retirement to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. However, that speculation was laid to rest recently when Hoya made it clear via his social media account that he had no plans to fight Mayweather who beat him in a bout that ended in a split decision in 2007.

After rumors about a potential rematch with Mayweather started making the rounds, Hoya took to his Instagram account and stated that he was "Happy, content and never coming back" though he did title his post "split decision" which caused a bit of confusion among his followers.

Hoya also pointed out that his initial fight against Mayweather had a rematch clause that expired within a year, but his opponent has not exercised it and instead retired one year and a day after their fight.

The current talk about Mayweather fighting Hoya originated after the 42-year-old, who is currently retired, stated that he was always thinking of making a comeback to boxing. He made the statement in a radio interview and hinted that if he reentered the boxing ring he wanted to fight the very best, which many though was Mayweather.

Not long after the statement was made, Mayweather seemed to have assumed that Hoya was making a comeback and stated that if he wanted a rematch it could be set up, as Mayweather is currently looking for an opponent to fight in the final match of his career. According to the terms of his contract with Showtime he has to fight one more match for them in September. Mayweather has an unbeaten 48-0 record and he will be looking to bring it up to 49-0 in his final fight before he finally retires.

However, Mayweather does not have anyone lined up to fight, even though it was rumored earlier that Amir Khan might fight him in September. Mayweather has been hinting and metioning Hoya and Gennady Golovkin as possible opponents.
