'Fast and Furious 8' updates: Cody Walker, Mr. Nobody, and New York
Many believed "Furious 7" will be the last movie in the "Fast and Furious" franchise with one of its main characters, Brian O'Connor, seeing the death of its actor Paul Walker. But with the news that there will be a "Fast and Furious 8," fans are asking what will happen to Brian O'Connor's character.
Paul Walker tragically passed away in 2013 after his car crashed during his charity event for Typhoon Haiyan victims. The event, unfortunate as it is, also raised questions about how "Furious 7" is going to move forward without one of its main characters. Thankfully, most of Walker's scenes have been shot and only a few had to be filled in — and his brothers Cody and Caleb stepped in as his stand-ins for the remaining ones. Now, rumors say that Cody is returning, not as a mere stand-in but as a new character.
Speaking of characters, most of the old cast have been confirmed to return. Ready to reprise their roles are Vin Diesel (Dominic Toretto), Michelle Rodriguez (Letty Ortiz), and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (Luke Hobbs). Kurt Russell's return as Frank Petty aka Mr. Nobody is still in question, as well as Eva Mendes' Monica Fuentes.
CinemaBlend also put together some speculations about the upcoming "Fast and Furious 8" and the other "Fast and Furious" sequels. Russell's appearance in the last movie is supposed to spawn a new story arc which may well be carried on in the next three movies, as Diesel revealed in a Jimmy Kimmel interview. In the same interview, the actor also hinted on a New York setting for the next few movies.
"Fast and Furious" is one of the most popular action franchises, the first of which was released in 2001 with "The Fast and The Furious." "Fast and Furious 8" will hit the big screen on April 14, 2017 and will be distributed by Universal Pictures.
