In an excusive report, Deadline also revealed that Johnny Depp has been cast in the "Fantastic Beasts" sequel and will also be making a cameo appearance in the first film. Although Depp's character was not announced, it is highly speculated that he will be playing Gellert Grindelwald.
For those who are unaware, Grindelwald was the first dark wizard, long before the birth and rise of Voldemort. He also has a history with Dumbledore, but it is unknown whether the film will portray that. However, it seems unlikely.
Grindelwald was also teased in the "Fantastic Beasts" trailer and his name was brielfy mentioned. "Time is running out. The man I warned you about is getting closer. We've lived in the shadows for too long. I refuse to bow down any longer," Percival Graves (Colin Farrell) warns.
It has been revealed that there will be four sequels, totaling five "Fantastic Beasts" films. The sequel is scheduled to begin filming next year, with a premiere set for Nov. 16, 2018. For now, fans can catch Newt Scamander in "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" on Nov. 18.
