Season three of the hit series "Empire" has just added a new actor to its star-studded cast in the form of Taye Diggs, who is known for his performance in the Broadway musical "Rent."

TV Line confirms that Diggs will play the role of Angelo Dubois, a city politician who comes from a prominent New York family and is someone who may be compared to the current U.S. president, Barack Obama.

According to the outlet, Angelo is not only very well-educated with a Harvard law diploma, but he is also fond of organizing events for the community. A Barack Obama in the making indeed, Angelo may turn out to be a good partner for Cookie (Taraji P. Henson), who is said to be totally done with Lucious' (Terrence Howard) sneaky acts.

Diggs is already starring in TNT's "Murder in the First" but his role in "Empire" season three is recurring, which means he will most likely appear in the series for the next seasons as well.

Meanwhile, the first official photo for the upcoming installment has finally been released. Though the finale of season two showed Cookie walking out on Lucious after she witnessed his wedding to Anika (Grace Gealey), the poster seems to hint of a reconciliation between the former couple.

With two powerful sentences that tell the entire story of "Empire," fans will easily understand that the exes will once again join forces to make the world understand that in their realm, it's "Their reign. Their rules."

In the image, Lucious holds Cookie by the shoulder, as the latter looks much more determined and powerful than the woman viewers know. Though Cookie may be done with Lucious and his selfish ways, showrunner Ilene Chaiken told The Hollywood Reporter back in May that the Lyons' matriarch won't give in easily.

"She's not leaving the family; she's not leaving the company. She and Lucious will always be in one another's lives and in one another's faces," Chaiken said. On the other hand, the EP clarified that Cookie has already given what she can to Lucious and she also made a vow to move on, minus her love and sacrifices for Lucious.

That being said, it can be safe to assume that Cookie will stick with Lucious for the sake of "Empire," but most likely, she will also have plans and goals of her own.

"Empire" season three will premiere on September 21, 2016 on FOX.
