The first "Dragon Ball" anime to come out in 20 years has finally been released and if fan reactions and reviews are anything to go by, it is safe to say that the new series has made its mark.

"Dragon Ball Super" premiered on July 5 in Japan and the new series allegedly surpassed the re-mastered DBZ "Dragon Ball Kai," a feat that underlined the devotion Toei Animation gave to this project.

Several sites have posted glowing reviews, with thousands of fans concurring and optimistic about the start of the new "DBZ" series. Most of the praises focused on the gorgeous animation and its crisp rendition. The first episode's storyline, albeit described as slow, was still a barrel of fun.

The premiere episode was more of a re-introduction to the "DBZ" gang — Goku, Gohan, Goten, Vegeta, Trunks, Piccolo and a few villains. The episode was set about six months after the defeat of Majin Boo and everyone appears to be enjoying a well-deserved, peaceful break. Its title, "Who Will the 100 Million Zenny Peace Reward Go To...?!" gives a hint as to the shenanigans that happened in the episode.

"Dragon Ball Super" is in very good hands as series' creator Akira Toriyama is in-charge of the story telling, a fact that "DBZ" fans rejoiced over when it was first announced.

Unfortunately for western fans, it has been reported that Goku and his friends will not be reaching North American shores until well into next year. However, considering that the "Dragon Ball" franchise also has a cult-like following in the US and the rest of the western hemisphere, it is possible that Toei will rush its release in the area.

Some fans have even expressed their surprise that the company did not go for a world-wide release, especially since another popular anime, "Sailor Moon Crystal" was streamed simultaneously in Japan and the US when it premiered in 2014.
