(Facebook / KBS World)Lead characters Yoo Shi-jin and Yoon Myeong-Ju go back to a special place in Uruk during the last episode of "Descendants of the Sun."

Korean drama series have gone global the past decade and one of its most successful shows is "Descendants of the Sun." The recently concluded show not only dominated TV ratings in countries where it was shown but has also made superstars out of its lead stars. It has also become one of most viewed series on the Internet and it is scheduled to be shown in more countries.

The story has already gone full circle, and one of its writers, Kim Won Suk, said he no longer wants to continue the story despite the numerous requests. He said that he already told the story he wanted to tell and that he wishes Shi-jin a happy life.

The show's finale shows a happy ending for the main couple Yoo Shi-jin and Yoon Myeong-Joo and main supporting couple Seo Dae-young and Kang Mo-Yeon. The last scene indicates that while the Alpha team and medical team were at the reception of Daniel Spencer and Ri Ye-hwa's wedding, an earthquake occurred.

However, KBS drama department head Jung Sung Ho has been reported to welcome the idea of a second season for the hit show. He said, "We want to repay viewers with the next 'Descendants of the Sun.' We are grateful to viewers, overseas fans, staff and actors. The drama was more than just a domestic syndrome; it established a third wave of Hallyu. KBS will strive to produce a second 'Descendants of the Sun' to meet expectations and repay viewers. We plan to launch a 2017 'Descendants of the Sun' project for broadcast in 2017 through negotiations with the cast and production team."

Fans of the show are divided with the news because of the possibility that main stars Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo will not be able to reprise their roles. Others also agree with writer Won Suk that the story has already been told in the best possible way.

More news and updates on "Descendants of the Sun" should arrive soon.
