As the National Football League (NFL) free agency period nears, one quarterback that will be up for grabs is the Denver Broncos' Brock Osweiler, who starred last season during the absence of franchise passer Peyton Manning. 

When Manning was out with a foot injury suffered in Week 10 of the 2015 regular season, Osweiler emerged for Denver. 

In Osweiler's second game as a starter, he guided the Broncos to a win over the then unbeaten New England Patriots in overtime. 

The Broncos went 5–2 with Osweiler as the starting quarterback and this helped them clinch the top spot in the American Football Conference (AFC) heading to the playoffs. 

Last season was the best year in Osweiler's NFL career so far and after seeing action in eight games (seven starts), he recorded career-highs 170 completions for 1,967 yards and 10 touchdowns, throwing six interceptions. 

However, the 25-year-old is going to be an unrestricted free agent soon and with Manning expected to retire, it is likely that the Broncos are seeking to give the younger quarterback a brand new deal. 

In a report by FOX31 Denver, it was stated that the Broncos had a "competitive" and "substantial" offer to Osweilier, although no specific information was divulged. 

The report suggested that Denver might give Osweiler a much lucrative deal than his previous one. This may be because the Philadelphia Eagles agreed with starting quarterback Sam Bradford to a two-year deal worth $36 million ($26 million guaranteed), despite the latter's performance last season.

If the previous season was Manning's swan song, it means Osweiler is now the main passer for Denver and this signifies to a much bigger paycheck for the former Arizona State standout. 

The Broncos would want to continue their winning ways in the 2016 season, especially coming off a Super Bowl-winning campaign which saw them play splendid defense to stop two heavily-favored squads, the New England Patriots and the Carolina Panthers.
