'Dark Souls 3' DLC release date: 'Ashes of Ariandel' will feature a new location

(Bandai Namco)A screenshot from "Dark Souls III." From Software Hidetaka Miyazaki has confirmed that the first DLC for the game will be released this fall.

"Dark Souls III" will officially have its first downloadable content (DLC) and this will be titled "Ashes of Ariandel." A lot of new content will be included in the latest expansion of the game.

As stated in reports, players will explore the frozen landscape of Ariandel. The main character of the game will set off on another journey to investigate what made the land so devastated. In the recent trailer that was shown, it featured an enemy that is similar to The Painted World's crow demon. The new DLC also seems to pay homage to the Painted World of Ariamis in "Dark Souls 1."

Aside from the new narrative that will be featured in the DLC, gamers will be introduced to new weapons, armor sets and magic. These can be used on the enemies that the gamers will encounter throughout the expansion. There will also be new bosses that will be harder to defeat.

Furthermore, the players will also be treated to a new player-versus-player (PvP) mode called Immortal Competition. These will test the skills and abilities of their character as they take on their fellow gamers.

The upcoming DLC will be the first expansion that will be released. There are still no official details regarding the second DLC pack, but once this has been released, that will be the final content for the "Dark Souls" franchise.

As stated in NeoGAF, the director of the video game, Miyazaki, has mentioned, "What is certain for now is, to me personally Dark Souls is over." He plans to move on to another project by saying, "So, rather than make another sequel, I think it's time we take a step to a new direction. Development of a new IP has already begun."

"Ashes of Ariandel" is slated to be released on October 25, 2016 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. The DLC is priced at $15, but players can opt to avail the season pass which is only $25. This will allow them to have future access to all the expansions.
