'Daredevil' season 3 release date: On hold or not happening?
Netflix's "Daredevil" is a far cry from the movie version that did not fare well in the box office. While already a big star when the film was made, actor Ben Affleck did not make an impact as much as British actor Charlie Cox when he wore the red suit. Unlike many sequels, Netflix's "Daredevil" season 2 was a bigger hit, and viewers are now wondering why a season 3 has not been announced.
Reports suggest that the network is prioritizing other projects. During an event in Paris, Cox was asked about season 3 and he revealed, "We don't know if there's going to be a season three." He went on to share that Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Iron Fist (Finn Jones), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and The Punisher (Jon Bernthal), characters who have made an appearance on "Daredevil," will join together to star in "The Defenders." A standalone series has already been made for Jessica Jones and the others will be featured in standalone projects as well.
Cox added, "Of course, Daredevil is very much part of that foursome." While others speculate that Cox will be appearing in both the standalone and joint projects, others think that "Daredevil" will not be seen for some time. Others fear season 3 won't happen at all.
When asked if the aforementioned project will include "Daredevil" storylines, Cox said, "In terms of wrapping up any storylines, maybe they'll do some of that in 'The Defenders'. Or maybe they won't." "The Defenders" are currently in its pre-production stage.
Director Kevin Smith, a known comic book fan, expressed desires to direct an episode of "Daredevil." He said he had been talking to Marvel chief creative officer Joe Quesada and executive vice president Jeph Loeb about his plans. Although he did not share what their responses were, he mentioned about the studio prioritizing other projects.
It looks like "Daredevil" season 3 is not hitting the small screens soon, and might not even be in the plans at all, but many are still hoping that a sequel will be ordered.
