'Dance Moms' season 6 rumors: Maddie Ziegler could be about to exit show; special episodes set to air on Lifetime

Maddie Ziegler is a rising star and has come a long way from being just a stellar dancer to an A-list celebrity. The 12-year-old shot to fame by appearing in hit maker singer Sia's music videos which included "Chandelier," "Elastic Heart" and "Big Girls Cry". After which, the graceful dancer appeared in reality show "Dancing With The Stars" and ABC Family's mystery drama "Pretty Little Liars."

Thanks to her flourishing Hollywood career, rumors are circulating that the star is calling it quits on "Dance Moms" and will not be appearing for season six. While neither Maddie nor Lifetime has confirmed these rumors, Ziegler herself expressed the desire to pursue an acting career and star in "Pretty Little Liars" again.

In an interview with Elle magazine, the "Dance Moms" star made it clear she would love to be on the ABC Family show again, further fueling reports that she is calling it quits with the show. "I want to be 'A'. That would be so sick...But hopefully I'll get to go back on the show, because it's my favorite...I don't even care if I'm an extra, I just want to go back!...I watch it religiously. I have a dance competition tonight but I'm recording it," said the dancing star.

Lifetime also seems to be attempting to keep her on the show since they announced special episodes that would document her struggles as a dancer right from the early days to her recent burgeoning entertainment career. International Business Times reports that other "Dance Moms" stars will also have their own special episodes which will be aired from July till August.

Star Nia Frazier's special kicks off on July 28 while Kendall's story will be aired on Aug. 4, 2015. Following Nia and Kendall's stories will be Maddie's sister Mackenzie's behind-the-scenes struggles on Aug. 11, 2015. A season five reunion special will be aired the following week, Aug. 18 and the specials will commence again with Kalani and JoJo's special episodes.

These special episodes are seen as a move by Lifetime to keep their star cast amidst reports that the show only airs fights and arguments rather than the dancers' professional talents and myriad of struggles.
