'Criminal Minds' season 12 updates: Cast does first table read; select members to attend San Diego Comic-Con
It's all systems go for "Criminal Minds" as the cast and crew prepare to shoot season 12. Meanwhile, some members of the BAU are headed to San Diego for the annual Comic-Con.
"Criminal Minds" is set to return in a few months and the cast and crew are all fired up to begin production, starting things off with their first table read. One of the show's Twitter pages, which focused on everything that goes behind the scenes, recently uploaded a photo showing the cast and the writers facing each other as they went over the scripts for the series' 12th season.
Their first table read appears to be a success, if Harry Bring's tweet is any indication. The show's production manager tweeted a photo showing cast members Kirsten Vangsness (Penelope Garcia) and Thomas Gibson (Aaron Hotchner) receiving birthday cakes during the table read.
Another tweet shows Matthew Gray Gubler (Spencer Reid) and Joe Mantegna (David Rossi) all smiles as they hang out with Shemar Moore (Derek Morgan). But before fans get their hopes up, Moore was just a VIP visitor.

Moore's absence will undoubtedly be felt when "Criminal Minds" season 12 returns to CBS. While he can't be replaced, Adam Rodriguez will hopefully be able to fill in the void left by Morgan. The "CSI: Miami" alum will be playing a member of the FBI's Fugitive Task Force who joins the Behavioural Analysis Unit (BAU). As the team has to hunt down 13 escaped serial killers, Rodriguez's help will surely be needed.
Aisha Tyler will also be returning to the series, albeit in a recurring role. This is good news for fans as Dr. Tara Lewis was a very effective profiler and had great chemistry with the BAU. There are also rumors that Paget Brewster might return as Emily Prentiss. The actress had previously tweeted a cryptic photo that showed a well-worn and very familiar pair of boots, similar to the ones she wears on the show.
For those who can't wait until September for anything "Criminal Minds," CBS will be hosting a "Fan Favorites" panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. Representing the BAU are Vangsness and Rodriguez. They will be joined by other CBS stars like Eric Christian Olsen and Daniela Ruah of "NCIS: Los Angeles," Daniel Henney of "Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders" and James Wolk of "Zoo" as they discuss how they started their careers and talk about the series they've worked on.
"Criminal Minds" season 12 will be returning to CBS on Sept. 28.
