'Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders' season 2 spoilers: IRT flies to Italy for another series of murders
After opening the second season of "Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders" in Tanzania, FBI's elite International Response Team will find themselves in an unconventional part of Italy in episode 2.
According to the synopsis for the episode called "Il Mostro," the team will be called to look into a new case in Italy after the state of two victims bore a resemblance to the killing style of the most infamous killer in the history of the country.
In an interview with TVLine, showrunner Erica Messer believes that the upcoming episode could be considered as "cringe-worthy." According to Messer, the killer can be described as the Italian version of the infamous serial killer in northern California known as Zodiac. But his killing style could be considered worse compared to that of the American killer. "You don't see much of it, thankfully, but there are a lot of great jump scares there," the showrunner stated.
Meanwhile, cast member Daniel Henney revealed in an interview with TV Fanatic that the second season of "Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders" will offer a lot of more exciting cases for the rest of the season.
Henney also teased that one of the episodes this season will center on his character Matt Simmons, who will travel all the way to Korea. "I'm super excited about a Matt Simmons story, actually. We have an episode where he gets to go to Korea and meets his grandmother. It's super special to me, having worked in Korea quite a bit in my life, so that was super cool," the actor stated.
He also mentioned that the production staff of the series exerted painstaking efforts to be able to come up with amazing sets to showcase the different countries where the IRT team will travel to this season, including the creation of a traditional Korean house called the hanok.
The next episode of "Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders" season 2 will air on CBS on Wednesday, March 15, at 10 p.m. ET.
