Chicago Bulls trade rumors 2016: Taj Gibson to Hawks for Kyle Korver?
The Chicago Bulls made significant roster changes in the off-season but outside shooting is still believed by some as a potential issue for them. A possible solution to this is to reunite the team with their former player, one-time All-Star Kyle Korver.
Korver, who is with the Atlanta Hawks, is one of the best shooters in the league today. His ability will help the Bulls' overall game as they aim to contend and be back in the playoffs.
The player who Chicago may give up in case they pursue this idea is veteran forward Taj Gibson. In the off-season, the 31-year-old found himself in the rumor mill and was present in almost all speculations involving the Bulls.
Gibson remains an efficient big man but his numbers, mainly on offense, went downhill in the 2015-16 season. This perhaps is one of the major reasons why he is viewed as a trade piece for the Bulls.
However, Gibson alone is unlikely enough for the Hawks to give up Korver, who is an important piece to the success the franchise reached in the past few campaigns. That is why it was suggested that a second-round pick could also be shipped to Atlanta.
A package deal of Gibson plus the future selection in exchange for Korver looks good on paper.
Others may see this as unfair to the Hawks since Korver is one of their best players. But his value might have decreased last season when his production dipped. This despite the fact that he had the same role as the squad's starting shooting guard and was seeing action for 30 minutes per game.
The decline in Korver's performance could have made him an easier target for the Bulls and other teams in the league wanting to add a shooter.
For now, the Bulls are making no moves to add a shooter and are settling with the outside gunners they have.
