For years, news about a third "Bridget Jones's Diary" film has been making its rounds online, however, over a decade after the most recent adaptation was premiered, the film that would round out the trilogy is still in development purgatory.

Unsurprisingly, fans of the franchise are already very antsy to find out where the production sits. Fortunately for them, it seems like the wait for a third "Bridget Jones's Diary" is almost over.

"Bridget Jones's Diary," whose first film came out more than 10 years ago in 2001, is a British romantic comedy film based on the novels of Helen Fielding of the same name. Like the literature it was based on, the movie is a modern reinterpretation of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice." It follows Bridget Jones, a single woman in her early 30s, as she tries to find true love having to choose between Daniel Cleaver and Mark Darcy.

A year ago, an interview with Hugh Grant, the actor who played Daniel Cleaver, confirmed that while his character would not be appearing in the third film, the theatrical feature is in fact underway. He said:

"I decided not to do it. But I think they're going to go ahead and do it without Daniel. The book's excellent, by the way, but the script is completely different – well, the script as I last saw it a few years ago."

More recently, Colin Firth, the actor who played Mark Darcy, revealed in a promotional interview for "Kingsman" with The Independent, that while he was tentative to confirm "Bridget Jones's 3" a couple of years ago, it seems like the cast and crew are ready for the third film.

"It would have to have somewhere to go. Back at the time, I said that a third one should only happen if we were telling a story about having moved into a different generation when we were all beginning to deteriorate a little bit. I think we might be ready for that moment!" explained the seasoned actor.

The release date for the third "Bridget Jones's Diary" has yet to be announced.
