Boston Celtics trade rumors 2016: C's attempted to land stars
The Boston Celtics have a great roster, and they improved that this off-season with the addition of former All-Star center Al Horford. However, some fans are displeased because there were no blockbuster trades that happened and team executive Austin Ainge recently responded to them.
According to MassLive.com, Ainge, who is Boston's director of player personnel, said in a podcast, "We were aggressive in trade talks but those depend on price. We were just trying to make the best decisions we can.
"We're trying to get a star but price matters. If our fans saw the prices on some of the trades, they'd say 'Yeah they made the right decision,'" Ainge added.
Aside from Horford, the only other notable acquisition this off-season for the C's is forward Gerald Green, who will be having his second run with the franchise. Joining them as newbies in the squad are the rookies Boston selected in the 2016 National Basketball Association (NBA) draft.
The Celtics are yet to accomplish a massive trade that would land them a player who can be the franchise's next superstar.
Although earlier in the off-season and in the past few weeks, some of the big names linked to Boston were the Chicago Bulls' Jimmy Butler, Los Angeles Clippers' Blake Griffin, and the Oklahoma City Thunder's Russell Westbrook.
Sadly, the C's did not make a move to add even just one of the guys mentioned. Still, the future is looking bright for the green and white.
Last season, led by All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas, the Celtics made it to the playoffs for the second consecutive year. They gave the Atlanta Hawks a fight in the first round before being eliminated in six games. Now that they have a battle-tested veteran in Horford, who knows what they can achieve in their new campaign during the 2016-17 season.
