'Battlefield 5' news, release date: DICE's big reveal was for 'Mirror's Edge: Catalyst'
When DICE senior video and media director Randy Evans tweeted a hype post for one of its games last week, a lot of fans expected that the game developing company will reveal something big about "Battlefield 5," but it turns out, it was for another game.
Evans posted this on his Twitter handle, Wednesday last week, "A BIG trailer is dropping this week......people don't even know what's coming ;) #hypehypehype."After that, numerous replies poured in with hopes that DICE will finally be showing a clip for "Battlefield 5," but the trailer was actually for "Mirror's Edge: Catalyst," Gaming Bolt revealed.
Although a lot of fans vented out their frustration on social media about their expectation to learn more about "Battlefield 5," DICE continues to be tight lipped about it.
It's almost a year since DICE released that latest chapter of the Battlefield series, titled "Battlefield Hardline." Master Herald reports that before the game turns one year this March, it will release one last DLC. This made people hope that the next installment will arrive very soon.
Last July, Electronic Arts chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen announced that "Battlefield 5" will hit stores this year. It was further confirmed by DICE development director Dan Vaderlind's statement that he will focus on the next "Battlefield" installment after "Star Wars: Battlefront" comes out.
Meanwhile, DICE announced a closed beta test along with the release of the new "Mirror's Edge: Catalyst" trailer last week. The trailer reveals more details on Faith.
The closed beta test will start before the launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The launch date of "Mirror's Edge: Catalyst," however, was moved from Feb. 23 to May 24 to "make sure that when you step into the massive City of Glass and experience the rise of Faith, it's as entertaining, impressive, and memorable as it can be," Producer Sara Jansson said through Gamespot.
