Apple iOS 9 release date due Sept. 16; will bring plenty of new features

(APPLE)

Realistically, not everyone will choose to upgrade their smartphones to the recently unveiled iPhone 6S or 6S Plus, but many Apple users are, for sure, looking forward to the new iOS 9 set the be released next week.

Apple announced that the iOS 9 will be available across the globe by Sept. 16. The new mobile operating system will be compatible with all devices that currently run the iOS 8, including the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2. No specific time was given, but Apple usually releases upgrades at 1 p.m. ET.

Based on the beta version of the iOS 9, Apple users can expect a ton of new features.

The new iOS 9 will not have significant design changes, but Apple has still made a few imperceptible changes. The upcoming mobile OS will no longer be using the Helvetica Neue font and will instead feature Apple's own San Francisco font. It may look the same to most people, but the new font is reportedly pleasant to look at.

The keyboard will also feature some changes – pressing the shift key will now make all the letters in the keyboard change from uppercase to lowercase. Users will have an easier time navigating the keyboard.

Siri has also gotten smarter and proactive. Siri now has the ability to analyze information on your device, including calendar events, contact details and emails. Siri will also take note of which applications you open most frequently. From the information gathered, Siri can make accurate suggestions based on the users needs.

The Spotlight search function has also improved. It can provide links and searches based on your location, including sports scores and weather forecasts.

The much-improved Maps application can now give mass transit directions for buses, ferries, subways and trains. Initially, the feature will be available for a select number of cities, but will continue to grow after some time.

The Notes application can now do more things including insert maps, photos and checklists and support drawings.

Apple also debuts its new News app, similar to Flipboard and other RSS-based news services. It provides news tailored to the users interests and presents it in an easy to read format.

iOS 9 will also allow users to make Wi-Fi phone calls so that they can cut down on their mobile operator costs. Using this feature also reportedly uses less battery and can provide clear communication between users.

Battery life is said to have improved drastically. The new iOS can provide users with one more hour of typical usage. When Low-Power Mode is activated, the device can help give three more hours of phone use.

There are many more features coming with the release of iOS 9 but thankfully, it will only need 1.3 GB of the device's memory, compared to the 4.6 GB that iOS 8 needed.

iOS 9 is expected to ship out by Sept 16, Tuesday, at 1 p.m. ET.
