Apple AirPods news, updates: Customers complain of charging case problems
A few weeks after the Apple AirPods became available online, owners of the wireless headphones are now complaining that the charging case is draining the earpieces' batteries.
The Apple AirPods are equipped with their own battery packs inside the earpieces. They are being recharged once left in the case. But some users complain that they are experiencing otherwise. In fact, they say their AirPods' batteries get drained when left in the charging case.
Through a Reddit thread, a number of AirPods owners agree that they are experiencing the same problem. Reddit user RodoBobJon started the thread, asking fellow AirPods owners: "Can fellow AirPods owners please share whether or not they are experiencing power drain when the AirPods are sitting in the case unused? I tracked this today, and from 9am to 3pm the battery case drained 11%."
Another Reddit user, severinskulls, shared having experienced the same problem and said: "I was having the exact same issue you had. Airpods in case, go to bed with full charge and waking up with 15%-20% of the case charge gone. Thats a full charge cycle for the airpods themselves!"
Severinskulls added that he already called Apple Support for the matter and as it turned out, Apple has yet to learn more about the issue. The Reddit user also shared that the Apple representative who received his complaint explained that the devices are designed to lose charge through time as a way to keep it working.
However, another Reddit user answered that this is not accurate for Lithium-ion battery packs. He added that these batteries are set to lose charge under the circumstance of long term storage.
It can be recalled that the Apple AirPods release was delayed for a couple of months for a still undeclared reason. Now that the issues with the charging case are slowly coming to light, it is hard not to speculate that it is what caused the delay.
MacRumors said, however, that the scope of the problem is still unknown since some owners reported that their charging case and AirPods seem to be working fine.
