With Google's I/O 2014 getting closer, it is rumored Google will announce its Android Silver program, the search giant's project which is rumored to kill off its Nexus series, including the Nexus 6 and Nexus 10 2.

The Android Silver program is not a new smartphone lineup, but a completely fresh system of mobiles from Google itself and other third-party phone makers.

All eyes are now set on the Android Silver release date, after Evan Blass (@evleaks), a reliable tipster, announced there will be no more Nexus 6, in a tweet on May 16.

With regard to Nexus 10 2, its predecessor Nexus 10 already turned one year last February but there is no word of a follow-up device yet, leading the industry to believe that the device may be the first one that Google killed.

As Google reveals more information, drawing nearer to the Android Silver release date, it is rumored to unveil HTC Nexus 8 as the first smartphone under the Android Silver program.

The HTC Nexus 8 unveiling may take place at the upcoming Google I/O 2014 Developers' Conference. The event will open on June 25 in San Francisco.

Android Silver is said to come out with premium specs requirements, and expected to be tagged with premium prices that will be more expensive than devices in the Nexus series.

Sundar Pichai, one of Google's executives, said during the Mobile World Congress in February, that Nexus 5's follow-up will arrive in the second half of 2014.

With the latest developments in the world of Google, that device may well come to be under the line of either the Android Silver program, or continue in the Nexus series.

Furthermore, @evleaks hinted previously that the the Android Silver release date will be no earlier than February 2015, and that the Nexus 6 will still arrive this year.

According to analyst Jack Narcotta of TBRI, in an interview with Computerworld, the Android Silver will revamp the Nexus program as Google tries to control the Android ecosystem.
