2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500: Chevy's pickup truck gets a strong and muscular update

Chevrolet has just unveiled their new Silverado 1500 pickup truck in a media event held during the State Fair in Dallas, Texas. According to Chevrolet, their dependable Silverado pickup trucks have been one of the fastest-growing pickup brands this year.

"The new 2016 Silverado will build on the Chevy truck legacy of dependability," Sandor Piszar, marketing director for Chevrolet trucks, said in their press release. The Silverado still maintains the Chevrolet Truck DNA but brings with it a new look and upgraded features.

Chevrolet's 2016 Silverado model features a distinct boxy design, with its platform made from high strength steel. The Silverado 1500 boasts of a muscular front fascia featuring a reshaped black or chrome grille, a sculpted hood and signature LED lights. The truck's exterior is also more streamlined with the turn signals and brake lamps wrapped around the corners of the truck. The truck also has different trims including the Z71, LT, LTZ, High Country trim as options.

Aside from trims, drivers can also choose between three different EcoTec3 engine options – a 4.3-liter V6 engine that provides 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque, a 5.3-liter V8 engine that provides 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque and a 6.2-liter V8 engine that gives 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The pickup is also now available with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

All three engines feature direct fuel-injection, continuously variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation which gives the Silverado improved power and efficiency.

The Chevy truck also has an optional 7-inch Chevy MyLink infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto compatibility. The available OnStar feature also brings 4G LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity. The new Silverado is also equipped with safety features including forward collision alter, lane keep assist, IntelliBeam high beam assist and remote locking tailgate.

The 2016 Silverado 1500 standard model goes on sale this fall and will be priced at $27,850 and can rise up to $53,835 depending on the trim and engine options.
