MacBook Pro and Air 2016 release date, specs news: Newest Skylake-powered laptops still not confirmed for March launch
Rumors point to a possible Apple Media Event taking place later this month, possibly on the 21st or the 22nd. Unfortunately, based on reports from other media outlets, it isn't clear whether Apple will be planning to introduce the newest MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models during that time.
It was previously established that Apple had been waiting for the arrival of the newest Intel sixth-generation Skylake processors before releasing newer models of its MacBook lineup. Now that the Intel Skylake processors are already available, it is possible that the release date for the 2016 Apple MacBook Pro and Air would be announced in the coming months.
According to MacRumors, the following Skylake processors will be compatible for the upcoming 15-inch MacBook Pro – the Intel Core i7-6970, i7-6870 and the i7-6770. Meanwhile, the 13-inch MacBook Pro would be able to use the Intel Core i7-6567U, the i5-6287U and the i5 6267U processors.
Then, for the MacBook Air, the Intel Core i7-6650U and the i7-6560U would be compatible for the higher spec'd versions and the Intel Core i5-6360U and the i5-6260U for the more standard models.
Rumors point to a possible March or April release date for the 2016 MacBook Pro 13-inch and 2016 MacBook Air models. Apple is also reportedly considering releasing the 15-inch MacBook Pro sometime in July or September. Apple enthusiasts should also look out for the Worldwide Developers Conference this June as a possible date.
However, since Apple has not made any official announcements regarding the 2016 versions of the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air laptops, the following details are still mainly speculative.
Hopefully, the release date is announced soon. Competitors like Dell, HP and Microsoft have already started selling their Skylake-powered laptops and Apple has yet to follow suit.
Stay tuned for all the latest news and updates on the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air laptops.
