Disney's Zendaya Coleman to play Aaliyah in biopic

17-year-old Zendaya Coleman has been tapped to play the late R&B princess, Aaliyah, in a Lifetime biopic.
According to reports, an actress has been picked to play the important role of Aaliyah for a movie that will tell her life. Aaliyah was a world-famous R&B recording artist and actress known for her suave and smooth melodic and dancing sensibilities. The singer was only 22 years old when the twin-engine plane she was in, along with other members of her crew, crashed in The Bahamas after filming her music video, "Rock The Boat."
To celebrate her life, Lifetime is set to release a biopic dedicated to the singer. The actress that has been chosen to play the role is Disney Star Zendaya Coleman. Coleman has expressed her joy and excitement to fill in the shoes of the urban icon in the movie by writing in her Twitter account.
"She's been an inspiration and influence in my whole career, her talent still shines brighter then ever, all I wanna do is honor her," wrote Coleman in her account, dated June 16.
"Show how much she accomplished in only 22 years....she's beautiful inside and there will never be another Aaliyah, I just hope to share her beautiful story, and make her proud up in heaven," continued the actress.
Born Aaliyah Dana Haughton, the actress had gained worldwide acclaim thanks to her hits such as the Dr. Doolitle soundtrack "Are You That Somebody?" and appearing in movies such as Queen of the Damned and The Matrix Reloaded.
