Xbox One backwards compatibility news and updates: 'Modern Warfare 3' and 'Oblivion' removed from Xbox Live Black Friday sale?

(Reuters/Shannon Stapleton)Shoppers leave with check out with their purchases from the Best Buy store in Westbury, New York November 27, 2015.

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" and "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" were earlier anticipated to be part of the growing library of Xbox One's backward compatible games since they were described on the Xbox Live Black Friday sale's site as also being playable on the said console. However, it has already been confirmed that there was an error with their inclusion on the site.

Speculations started circulating online that "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" and "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" would already be available as backward compatible games after some users spotted it on the website of Xbox Live. Both Xbox 360 entries contained the description that they were also playable on Xbox One.

Now, however, it was reported in GameSpot that the two games have been deleted from the backward compatible titles found on the Xbox Live Black Friday sale site.

Even though "Modern Warfare 3" and "Oblivion" have been removed from the list of games that have backwards compatibility, it does not mean that they will not have the feature soon. Microsoft has good relations with the publishers of the titles,  Activision and Bethesda. In fact, some of their games are already backwards compatible, such as "Call of Duty: Black Ops," "Doom" and "Doom II."

It was also confirmed by Major Nelson from Microsoft that there was indeed a mistake with the listings. He was also able to reply to the inquiries of Xbox One users via Twitter regarding the error that was made with the two titles.

As of now, "Oblivion" and "Modern Warfare 3" are still part of the listing of the Xbox Live Black Friday sale, but they are only playable in the Xbox 360 console. The price of "Oblivion" has been reduced to $4.94 while "Modern Warfare 3" is being sold at $15.

In the meantime, Xbox 360 titles that have backwards compatibility also have a dual-packaging. Based on a report from IGN, they now have an additional description found at the top part of the product's front cover and it says, "Plays on Xbox One and Xbox 360."

A representative from Microsoft gave an official statement about the new packaging for Xbox games, saying: "It's great to see the excitement for Xbox One Backward Compatibility. We updated our packaging to make it easier for fans to identify Xbox One Backward Compatible titles. We're constantly listening to fans on Xbox Feedback and continuing to work with our publishing partners to grow our library of Xbox One Backward Compatibility titles. We have nothing else to share at this time."
