'Witchblade' reboot news: 'TVD' and 'CSI' showrunners tasked to write script for upcoming NBC TV adaptation
NBC has picked up the comic book series titled "Witchblade" for a new TV reboot. "The Vampire Diaries" showrunner Caroline Dries and "CSI" showrunner Carol Mendelsohn have been tasked to work on the script for the upcoming TV adaptation.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the reboot series is already in development, and it will be based on the comic books of the same name written by Marc Silvestri, David Wohl, Michael Turner, and Brian Haberlin. Meanwhile, Brian Young, Julie Weitz, Matt Hawkins, and Silvestri will serve as executive producers.
TNT's TV adaptation of "Witchblade" series aired from 2001 to 2002. Yancy Butler portrayed the lead character, but her subsequent battle with alcoholism forced the show to go into hiatus. In the end, the network decided to cancel it entirely.
The original comic books were published by Top Cow Productions, which ran from 1995 to 2015. There are a total of 185 issues.
For the uninitiated, "Witchblade" follows the story of homicide detective Sara Pezzini. The seemingly ordinary law enforcement agent gains supernatural powers — thanks to her bracelet, which is called the Witchblade. She has worn this item all her life, but, one day, the bracelet activates and bestows her a supernatural gift that gives her insight into the cases she's working on. It turns out that the Witchblade is one powerful amulet passed on from generations of powerful women, and Sara Pezzini is next in line for greatness.
Aside from TNT's brief adaptation of the series, "Witchblade" also has an anime and manga adaptation. To add, the story was supposed to be adapted into a feature film in 2008, which was to be launched in 2009, but the film never got produced.
Once the script has been made, more updates are expected to roll out. Fans of the story should watch out for casting and release date announcements.
