The pilot season of M. Night Shyamalan's "Wayward Pines" ended several months ago in July. Still fans of the series are anxiously waiting for news about the show's renewal for a season 2. With the way the first run ended, there is no certainty that the series would be coming back. Fortunately, however, Shyamalan himself expressed his interest in returning to the creepy town of Wayward Pines.

The first season of the thriller series followed Ethan Burke, a U.S. secret service agent investigating the disappearance of his fellow agents in the show's titular town. Ultimately, Burke, who is played by Matt Dillon, found himself dead after choosing to sacrifice himself for the First Generation.

At the offset of the finale, Shyamalan, executive producer of the show, sat down with Deadline to discuss the end of his most recent undertaking. During the interview, the "Sixth Sense" director gushed about how pleased he is with the initial run of "Wayward Pines."

"We're super surprised, excited, humbled by the reaction to Wayward Pines," said Shyamalan.

In the same interview, he revealed that while there are no set plans for a second season, he and Blake Crouch, the author of the novel the show was based on, have already sat down and figured out an idea as to where a hypothetical season 2 might be heading.

"I'm such an end backwards kind of filmmaker, storyteller, and that's what I loved about doing these 10 episodes. I knew where I wanted to go. I knew I wanted the fences to come down. I knew where we were heading for the finale and so we could architecture the 10-episodes in that manner. So, I am happy to walk away, especially with such a wonderful reaction and all that stuff. But honestly, Blake and I do have an idea," teased the executive producer.

At present, no announcement about "Wayward Pines" season 2 has been announced.
