'Wayward Pines' season 3 renewal news, spoilers: Cliffhanger baby neither human nor Abby?

"Wayward Pines" has just finished its suspenseful second season and fans are still reeling from the big cliffhanger in the finale. As of yet, FOX has not issued any renewal for the series, but executive producer M. Night Shyamalan is hopeful of getting a third season for the show.
As per Movie News Guide, the EP talked about the possibility of having a third season during Wonder Con earlier this year. Shyamalan said that a renewal would give them a chance to wrap up the events that took place in the town and give closure to the story. He also said that the series was meant to run for three arcs and expressed his hopes that they would get the opportunity to finish up in season 3.
Last installment, viewers were left with a chilling scene when an Abby was shown carrying what appeared to be a human baby. Author Blake Crouch said in a recent interview that the scene would be an integral part of the new story arc that would be unveiled in season 3. He reminded the fans that the show has always toyed with the idea of human evolution. If humans have changed through time, it is entirely possible that the Abbies will do so as well. The baby may look human, but Crouch teased that it would probably be more than that.
"Evolution has always pushed forward, and [the scene] suggests that the Abbies are changing also. The Abbies will evolve into something else. And we wanted to just drop the notion that perhaps when these residents of Wayward Pines emerge from the pods, they're going to find a very different world than the ones they left behind," Crouch told Entertainment Weekly.
Meanwhile, Crouch admitted that if FOX does give the green light for season 3, they would probably be introducing new characters that would co-exist with the old ones. The author also teased that the next season would revolve around man's idea of extinction. He said that he and Shyamalan have always been drawn to the said storyline and hope to work on that soon.
