'Wayward Pines' season 3 renewal update: FOX positive that series will be renewed for another season

Despite "Wayward Pines" season 2 paling in comparison to the series' first season as far as the ratings are concerned, there is still a good chance for the said series to be picked up for another season.
While it's true that "Wayward Pines" season 2 average ratings were low, its season 2 finale episode delivers impressive numbers. When the digital video recording (DVR) numbers of the said episode are included, the finale of "Wayward Pines" season 2 viewership ratings will reach 3.5 million.
With this, hope of the fans has been renewed after it was earlier speculated that "Wayward Pines" would take a bow at the conclusion of its previous season.
"I definitely think there could be a eason 3. It's still the number one scripted show of the summer," Fox CEO Dana Walden said at the Television Critics Association summer press tour held recently.
However, despite Walden feeling positive that "Wayward Pines" season 2 will get a renewal for another season run, everything is still up in the air at this point in time as the network is still waiting for how the said series will perform on other platforms, such as the network's own streaming platform, Fox Now.
"We don't know yet what we're going to find when the multi-platform numbers roll up, ultimately how big that audience (can be)," Walden added.
To the uninitiated, "Wayward Pines" season 2 ended with the remaining human race sleeping in the cryogenic pods, thanks to Jason Higgins (Tom Stevens) who came up with the said decision for fear that the Abbies will invade Wayward Pines. It also teased that the newborn Abby has more human-like features rather than monstrous.
With that, there is no denying that the conclusion of the season 2 of "Wayward Pines" can be a great starting point for its season 3, much more that the series is bent on showcasing evolution, not only for humans but for the Abbies, too.
"Evolution has always pushed forward, and (the scene) suggests that the Abbies are changing also. The Abbies will evolve into something else. And we wanted to just drop the notion that perhaps when these residents of Wayward Pines emerge from the pods, they're going to find a very different world than the ones they left behind," said Blake Crouch, executive producer of "Wayward Pines," in an interview with Entertainment Weekly last month.
While the fate of "Wayward Pines" season 3 remains uncertain, fans can, at least, relish the fact that even Fox is feeling affirmative on its renewal. For now, avid viewers of the show can only hope, pray, and feel more positive that the network will, indeed, give a nod to "Wayward Pines" season 3.
