'Wayward Pines' season 2 news: Fox is yet to confirm renewal as plot theories emerge

"Wayward Pines" captured the hearts and imagination of millions of viewers and received positive reception for its freshman season. While the show was advertised as a summer event with a 10-episode single season, fans have been clamoring online for FOX to renew the mystery drama series.
With 3.9 million viewers tuning in to see the series' shocking and mind-boggling finale, hopes and rumors started to emerge that the show would be renewed for a second season. "Wayward Pines" is the top-rated scripted series of the summer, reports TVLine.
However, till date, FOX has not renewed the series, although several rumors and speculations are doing the rounds. Executive Producer, M. Night Shyamalan, did concede to Deadline during an interview that there is a plan for season two and that he has talked about it with author, Blake Crouch, who penned the books from which the show derived its source material.
Showrunner, Chad Hodge, confirmed that there are no official talks to renew the season during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He said, "There is no official season two yet, no talks yet. Nothing to report on that front."
However, he did hint that Ben could do the right thing and change things in "Wayward Pines" should the story continue. Indeed, one plot rumor circulating online is that Ben could wear Ethan's shoes and lead a revolution against the First Generation who took over the town in the season finale. This would certainly make an interesting plotline, seeing that the series ended openly.
Another possible plotline could be that the show explores Adam Hassler's story who was Ethan's boss in the Secret Service. He and a group of people ventured outside the walls of "Wayward Pines" only to go as far as San Francisco and confirming that Wayward Pines was all that was left of the human civilization. The show could explore his story.
Hopefully, FOX will renew "Wayward Pines" and give its fans some closure.
