"Wayward Pines" has just wrapped up its amazing 10-episode run and it ended in a way that made a lot of viewers content, even if they never have to visit the town again.

That is not to say that the season ended badly; on the contrary, it ended with a masterful flourish and a twist that was typical Shyamalan. And that is why most fans are hoping that the Fox network would not give in to the accolades and pressure from advertisers and just keep "Wayward Pines" as a "summer event."

"Wayward Pines" boasts of such stellar credentials; aside from being executively produced by the the inimitable, M. Night Shyamalan, it was also able to get stars like Matt Dillon, Carla Gugino, Melissa Leo and Terrence Howard on board.

The show has always been treated as a miniseries with a definite number of episodes, a "summer event" that would end with the season. But it was inevitable that there would be clamors for a second season, especially after the way the show masterfully kept switching genres, from a supernatural thriller, to horror and then to science fiction, with some drama and romance thrown in for good measure.

The series finale provided enough closure for most fans but it also left a window open in case Fox decides to pursue another season of "Wayward Pines."

This would provide quite a challenge, considering the 10-episode series has already covered Blake Crouch's "Wayward Pines" trilogy. But Shyamalan apparently has an idea on how to go forward with season two.

The 44-year-old director admitted in previous interviews that he is "happy to walk away" from the show but reveals that he and the author already have an idea on where the story would go.

"Wayward Pines'" showrunner, Chad Hodge, also echoed Shyamalan's comments in several publications and said that "there are some preliminary discussions, but nothing official yet."
Some fans are already speculating on the next season of "Wayward Pines" and have pointed out that the way Ben came out of his coma strongly echoed what happened to his father when he first woke up in the town.
