'Wayward Pines' episode 5 answered many questions but raised new ones about the town

New series "Wayward Pines" is rapidly developing a loyal following. Its excellent ensemble of actors and compelling storyline are making people wonder what secrets the disturbing town is hiding.

Some of those secrets have already been revealed in episode five. But it also left fans confounded and eager for the next episode.

To bring those who are new to the ABC series up to date, Secret Service agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) was searching for two missing agents when he was involved in a car accident. He woke up in Wayward Pines, a small town in Idaho, where he finds one agent decomposing and the other living a normal life in the town. What's more, Burke cannot leave the town.

In episode five, viewers discovered that contrary to what they (and Ethan) believed, it is already the year 4028. Burke found out about this when he was able to breach the wall and discovered that Boise, Idaho was abandoned and in ruins. He also encountered "abbeys" or aberrations (mutated humans) and learned that "Wayward Pines" was designed to ensure mankind's survival; the residents of the town are the people who were placed in "hibernation" and chosen to jumpstart civilization.

This big shocker was exciting but understandably also raised a lot of questions. One burning question was the paradox of Pope (Terence Howard) and Pilcher (Toby Jones) appearing in both the present time line (2014) and in the future one. Pope caused the accident that Theresa (Shannyn Sossaman) and Ben (Charlie Tahan) were involved in and Pilcher had a meeting with Ethan's boss.

There is also that nagging question that maybe Ethan's family did not show up at "Wayward Pines" by accident, especially after Pilcher pointed out to Ethan that not everyone was lucky enough to have their family with them.

Speaking of family, Ethan's family appears to be settling down in their new town. His son Ben is learning about the "abbeys" while his wife Theresa now has a job as a realtor.

The answers might be found in episode six, but viewers would have to wait until June 25 to find out.
