Washington Wizards trade rumors 2016: 76ers' Jahlil Okafor key to better season?

(Wikimedia Commons/Ed)Philadelphia 76ers center Jahlil Okafor is continuously being linked to the Boston Celtics.

Forward Kelly Oubre Jr. is starting to be a favorite for the Washington Wizards when it comes to trading, and one potential deal in which they can use him is in a swap with the Philadelphia 76ers.

In a possible trade, Oubre, together with 2017 and 2018 first-round picks, will be shipped to the City of Brotherly Love for the Wizards to get center Jahlil Okafor.

It is likely that if the 76ers are dealing away one of their young centers, it would be Nerlens Noel. But Okafor might be available as well since he was also placed on the market in the off-season.

Okafor could be an impact piece for the Wizards if they pursue a deal. In the years to come, his significance to them may grow.

Having Okafor gives the Wizards a young center who has great potential and his addition also secures the no. 5 position. There is a chance the 20-year-old joins the backcourt duo of John Wall and Bradley Beal as the stars of the franchise.

As the 2016-17 NBA season continues, the Wizards are looking like a squad that badly needs to execute roster changes or else failure is inevitable. The tandem of Wall and Beal, which is often plagued by health setbacks, is just not enough to catapult them back to the playoffs.

Okafor can be the improvement Washington must have to salvage the season, which so far is not in the team's favor.

The Wizards are currently at 3-9 for the second to the last spot in the Eastern Conference standings. They have won only once in their last five games, and some of these losses were against teams expected to flunk this season like the Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat.

It is still early though and the Wizards have time to turn the tides but they must do it quickly.
