There is a new smartphone in town which has arrived to take on the curved screen Galaxy S7 Edge from Samsung. Here is how Vivo Xplay 5 Elite fares when it takes on Samsung's latest phablet in a face to face comparison.

Design

When it comes to design, the Xplay 5 Elite has an edge as it has a full metal body and so it is sturdier. The fingerprint scanner is positioned at its rear and it has a dual curved screen. As for colors, the Xplay 5 Elite comes in silver, rose gold and gold.

As for the S7 Edge, it too has a curved screen and it can customized to display important contacts apps, panels of apps, along with the calendar in two rows and even notifications when the main screen is turned off. However, the device has a metal frame and Gorilla Glass 4 on its back panel along with a fingerprint scanner incorporated into its home button. The device is also water and dust proof with an IP 68 rating and, therefore, it can be immersed in 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes. As for colors, it comes in black, white, gold and silver.

Display

An Always On display is on the S7 Edge and it is a Super AMOLED version measuring 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 534 pixels per inch. On the Xplay 5 Elite is a Super AMOLED display measuring 5.43 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 541 pixels per inch.

Hardware

The version of the S7 Edge selling in Asia comes with an Exynos 8890 Octa chipset, coupled with an octa-core CPU and a Mali-T880 MP12 GPU. Coming to the international version of the S7 Edge and the Xplay 5 Elite, each has a Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 chipset, coupled with a quad-core CPU and an Adreno 530 GPU.

Memory

No memory slot is present on the Xplay 5 Elite while its competitor has a version that supports up to 200 GB. As for RAM, the Xplay 5 Elite is ahead with a huge 6 GB while the S7 Edge has 4 GB onboard.

Camera

Onboard the S7 Edge is a 12 megapixel camera with OIS and the Xplay 5 Elite comes with a 16 megapixel version.

Price

Both unlocked, the Vivo Xplay 5 Elite costs $655 while the Galaxy S7 Edge costs $792.
