'Vikings' season 4 spoilers, air date: Ragnar's wives and sons to vie for the throne

Season 4 of "Vikings" will feature the wives and sons of Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) vying for the throne — the one that Ragnar had abandoned — once the show returns from its midseason break. According to the latest reports, Queen Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) is poised to ascend the throne, but Ragnar's first wife Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) will return to challenge the former as she fights for what she believes is rightfully hers.
Rumor has it that the two women in Ragnar's life will be in the midst of a showdown, with the abandoned throne as the prize. This comes after the King of Kattegat, Ragnar, decided to abandon his royal duties in his quest to live a life of a hermit.
In earlier episodes, Queen Aslaug already lost admiration for her husband after he lost the image of being a dynamic adventurer. Her real motives were also unveiled after she asked a seer to tell her who the next queen of Kattegat will be. However, Lagertha, being the first wife, believes that she is more worthy of the throne and will eventually try to claim it.
Apparently, the emptied throne is too valuable that not only the two wives of the king are keeping their eye on it. It is believed that Ragnar's sons, Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) and Ivar the Boneless (Alex Høgh), are also drawing a bead on the throne. However, if the last aired episode of season 4 is to be the basis, it is unlikely for Bjorn Ironside to claim the throne. He was still in the Mediterranean when the show went on a midseason break.
At this time, there is still no certainty as to when season 4 of "Vikings" will resume. However, many believe the show will return once the sixth season of "Game of Thrones" takes a bow in July. Reportedly, this move was made to avoid direct competition with "Game of Thrones," which belongs to the same genre.
