'Vikings' season 4 spoilers: Ragnar acts against the ones who confess; Rollo gets an offer he can't refuse from French

The third season of History Channel's "Vikings" came to a close with much bloodshed and hanging questions. After successfully invading Paris, The King of Denmark, Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) must now act on the secrets he has discovered about his closest friends and family.

In the season finale, Ragnar executes a plan to infiltrate Paris by faking his own death, a plan known only to his son Bjorn. In their private moments with Ragnar's alleged corpse, his trusted friend Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård), former wife Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) and traitor brother Rollo (Clive Standen) confess their deepest secrets. Ragnar hears Lagertha still loves him, as well as Floki admitting to killing Athelstan.

After infiltrating Paris, Ragnar jumps out of his coffin, revealing that he is indeed alive and opens France's gates to a Viking raid. At the end of the episode, Ragnar tells Floki that he knows he is Athelstan's killer.

In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, series creator Michael Hirst revealed that in season four, those who confessed will suffer the consequences of their words. "He's heard everything! He knows what people think about him." Hirst says. "They suffer from that later; there's a carry-over because they've confessed things that they would have kept to themselves otherwise."

Apart from the confessions, it also seems that Ragnar and Rollo's rivalry will get worse in season four. After Ragnar and most of the Vikings leave for home, the King of France makes a very tempting offer to Rollo, which includes lands, titles and his daughter's hand in marriage. The two brothers may battle again if Rollo chooses to accept the Kings offer.

"Vikings" is inspired by the tales of Norsemen of early Medieval Scandinavia. It follows the story of the legendary Viking, Ragnar Lothbrok and his crew and family.

"Vikings" season four is expected to return in early 2016.
