The Vikings raiding Paris is one of the main plots for season three and seven episodes into the season, audiences will finally see some bloodshed on the battlefield. In episode 8 named "To The Gates!" the Viking army finally invades Paris. According to the episode's official synopsis by IMDb, Paris goes on lockdown due to the invasion and the army prepares its defense.

Paris has been much talked about this season, so fans should expect some interesting twists along with ample bloodshed. While many viewers thought the previous week's episode would actually showcase the raid, it only depicted the Vikings' fleet preparing for the raid. Floki was seen inventing something that would help them scale the walls while King Ecbert sweared to protect Judith and her son, Alfred, who will grow up to be a great King of England. The episode ended with people chanting as preparation for battle next day.

But perhaps the most anticipated sub-plot, along with the raid, is how Ragnar will change with the death of his most trusted friend and spiritual guide, Athelstan. The Anglo-Saxon monk died and it impacted Ragnar the most. Although fans didn't see the immediate impact his death had on Ragnar, it will be seen in the upcoming episode. In an interview with Zap2it, creator Michael Hirst reveals "It's (Athelstan's death) going to have a huge impact psychologically and in other ways. We don't necessarily see that immediately, but certainly when he gets to France. He becomes a slightly different, slightly darker man."

Nevertheless, International Business Times speculates that audiences may see Ragnar retaliating on Floki for killing his closest friend and confidant. See Paris' raid and defense against the Vikings, Ragnar's possible retaliation and his changed personality on Thursday, April 9 at 10 p.m. on The History Channel.
