'Under the Dome' season 4 will no longer happen; new season would have taken characters to a different location
Cancellations do not necessarily mean the end of a particular TV series as some networks or streaming services are bound to pick them up, especially if there is enough clamor for a renewal. That's why no one can blame fans of the sci-fi mystery drama, "Under the Dome," from hoping for a season four. Unfortunately, they got some really bad news this week.
Despite clamors for a follow-up to the explosive third season finale and rumored efforts to house the show on a different platform, "Under the Dome" is now officially cancelled. TV Line reports that the people behind the show, which is based from Stephen King's novel of the same title, has officially confirmed the cancellation of the sci-fi mystery drama.
CBS, the original network in which "Under the Dome" aired, cancelled the show last Aug. 31 after three seasons. Shortly after, there have been rumors that the executive producers have reached out to both Netflix and Hulu, in hopes that one of them will renew the show for season four. With the final episode of season three aired two weeks ago, the producers now confirm that season four is no longer a possibility.
New reports, however, shed light to the fate of the show, with executive producer Neal Baer clarifying that they never had any intentions of continuing the show beyond CBS. With that, he reiterates that rumors of them offering the show to online streaming platforms are just that — rumors. He also points out that everyone behind the show are pretty much happy with how the show wrapped up.
Baer explains, "We wanted to have a satisfying conclusion that made the audience feel like they had been on this journey and there was an end to it. In a way, we gave ourselves an ending that really ended the show.... We have this very satisfying ending with all of our characters."
However, the executive producer says the show might have taken the characters to a different location had it continued with a new season. And then, they would have explored how it is for the characters to "live the real life."
