'True Detective' season 2 news: Nic Pizzolatto says it's on for 3 seasons and 3 seasons only

'True Detective' creator Nic Pizzolatto has revealed that the popular HBO series will only air for 3 seasons, meaning there will only be one more season after the second one that is being currently produced.
HBO's 'True Detective' has been praised by countless critics for its one-of-a-kind storytelling and though critical acclaim is the one of the main sources of fuel for a show to go on for years, creator Nic Pizzolatto reveals that he only intends to run the show for 3 seasons.
During the Banff World Media Festival, the series creator admitted that 'True Detective' is only intended for a three-season run, and that he has no plans of extending the crime suspense drama further than the time he has allotted himself for it. Pizzolatto added that if he plans to do a regular show on TV, 'True Detective' won't be the series for it.
"I can't imagine I would do this more than three years. I mean, I'd like to have a regular TV show. We'll have some fixed sets, regular actors and I could bring in people to help and I don't have to be there every second. It'd be great," said Pizzolatto.
Pizzolatto further explained that writing each episode is exhausting for him, and that he feels the physical effects even if the show could clearly go on further than three seasons.
"It can't have any growing pains like a regular first season. If it works, it has to work right out of the box. That's incredibly exhausting. I mean, the job is exhausting to begin with, but it's doubly exhausting and I'm writing every episode," added the writer.
Based on the first season alone, Pizzolatto has shown how well he can pen a gripping series with an off-beat storytelling. Season 1 featured Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, while the second season will star Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell.
