'This Is Us' spoilers: Series creator talks about Jack's death, more unexpected twists coming in the series
A new detail about Jack's (Milo Ventimiglia) painful death had been hinted in the latest episode of "This Is Us," but series creator Dan Fogelman revealed that more heartbreaking revelations about the death of the Pearson patriarch will be revealed in the show's upcoming episodes.
In episode 13 titled "Three Sentences," viewers of the critically acclaimed family drama found out the approximate age when Jack passed away. Based on the funeral scene, Kevin (Justin Hartley), Kate (Chrissy Metz), and Randall (Sterling K. Brown) are already in their teens when Jack died.
But in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Fogelman revealed that fans should expect to learn how Jack died and what happened next to the family after the man of the house left them as the series progresses.
"You'll learn when ... and then, much later, how," the series creator stated as he addressed Jack's death. "Hopefully that'll take many, many episodes."
This could mean that it will take quite a while before the show covers the entire plot of Jack's passing, especially since the series has been renewed for two more seasons.
Fogelman also confirmed that out of the Big Three, it was Kate who was devastated the most when their father died. This was hinted in the scene where Kate recalled her father's funeral during the drum session at the intensive weight-loss program.
The series creator also revealed that more unexpected events will be revealed in the future episodes of the show.
"We have a lot [of twists]. Our theme is, life will surprise you a little bit," Fogelman stated. "What's surprising for the audience is the order in which we choose to tell this story. We know where this series is going and how we're going to keep people on their toes."
NBC will air the next episode of "This Is Us" on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
