Fans are rejoicing at the news that the Salvatores of Mystic Falls will be reuniting with the Mikaelsons of New Orleans. It was announced during the Television Critics Association winter press tour that "The Vampire Diaries" and its spin-off series, "The Originals," are finally getting a crossover episode set to air later this season.

"It's something that we've always wanted to do, but never could quite find the organic way to do it. We never wanted to force it," said executive producer Julie Plec.

The crossover is expected to air sometime in February during the 14th episodes of both "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals."

"It's a nice two-episode set of 'Vampire-Diaries-Originals' cohabitation. It's going to be good. I'm excited about it," Plec added.

In the first hour of the crossover on "The Vampire Diaries," Stefan Salvatore will get into trouble and will go on the run while being pursued by magical forces. He tries to seek safe haven in New Orleans, especially since there is a bar there called The St. James Infirmary that is impermeable to magic.

As he seeks refuge in New Orleans, Stefan will come face-to-face with Klaus Mikaelson.

The crossover continues in "The Originals" where Stefan remains in New Orleans "to help Klaus deal with a problem that is super specific to Stefan's survival," Plec further revealed.

Plec also revealed that Caroline will be involved in the crossover in some capacity but declined to give any specific details. At this time, it is still unknown who among the characters will be involved in the upcoming crossover.

Stay tuned for all the latest news and updates regarding the crossover episode.

Season 7 of "The Vampire Diaries" and season 3 of "The Originals" return to The CW on Jan. 29, Friday at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. ET, respectively.
