Nina Dobrev's exit after the sixth season of "The Vampire Diaries" left a lot of fans hanging. Fans became excited when they found out that Dobrev will be appearing in the last two episodes of the show, and not just the series finale as was previously announced. The question is — will she come back to play Elena or Katherine, who also happens to be the Queen of Hell, as revealed in episode 14.

Both of Dobrev's characters — Elena and Katherine — are intertwined with the lives of the Salvatore brothers, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley). 

According to TV Guide, she will be coming back as the latter, at least for episode 15, titled "We're Planning a Wedding." Katherine's return is the reason why Damon and Stefan will make hurried arrangements for the ceremony, which will be between the younger Salvatore and Caroline (Candice King), because they believe this is one way to lure the Queen of Hell out of hiding. Given Katherine's obsession with the newly-human Stefan, it could well be the reason why she will surface again. The teaser certainly shows that their attempt to draw her out was successful, as leaked clips showed her attempting something to derail the wedding.

Elena will also be coming back for the season finale, but her return might not necessarily be a joyful occasion. Entertainment Weekly reports that she is at Mystic Hollows for a funeral, although it has yet to be revealed which character of "The Vampire Diaries" will die at the end of the show.

The CW recently released a teaser of the season finale, which features Elena meeting Damon and Stefan after she wakes up. With the younger Salvatore brother married, fans are speculating that she will end up with the former, although this has yet to be confirmed, especially with a character's death just around the corner.

Episode 15, "We're Planning a Wedding," will be shown on Friday, March 3, at 8 p.m. EST on The CW. The series finale, episode 16, titled "I Was Feeling Epic," will air on March 10.
