As "The Vampire Diaries" season eight prepares for its premiere in October, a new star has joined the cast: Allison Scagliotti of "Stitchers."

According to TV Line, Scagliotti will play the role of Georgie, a mysterious lady who is "driven by a horrific darkness in her own past." As early as now, it can be safe to assume that Georgie is someone whose past demons will come and haunt her in the upcoming installment of "TVD." Her connection with the Salvatore brothers is also something to look forward to.

Georgie will immediately be introduced in the first episode of season eight though it is unclear if she will also show just what kind of powers or skills she has in the early episodes of the new installment.

While not much is known about Georgie's connections to the core cast, she is described as someone who "channels her existential anxieties into a new field of study that will force her to confront her deepest fears."

Meanwhile, the biggest question regarding the upcoming season has yet to be answered: is Nina Dobrev coming back? As fans know, her character re-appeared in the form of an audio appearance in the finale of season seven.

While Dobrev has not spoken up about the possibility of returning to the series, showrunner Julie Plec has said in previous interviews that she has talked to the actress regarding her return only for the entire franchise's finale.

According to The Christian Times, rumors are hot on Dobrev's heels as she is said to make a comeback through a different character. This could mean that Elena won't wake up from her slumber. Instead, Dobrev may return as a whole new villainous character, as suggested by some fans.

This is because Elena's slumber is linked to Bonnie's (Kat Graham) death. Elena can only be awakened once her friend dies. While Graham has announced that the eighth installment of "The Vampire Diaries" will be her last, it is likely that Bonnie will only be gone when the season ends.

"The Vampire Diaries" season eight is slated for premiere on October 21, 2016 on The CW.
